Here is a list that details pricing for the types of custom artwork that I do. Bear in mind that I have a full-time job and studio work is something I do on the side. If you're in a rush, it's a good idea to contact me about it to see if your deadline can be accommodated.
In this list, I tried to include the services I most frequently provide. However, if there is something you're interested in that you don't see in the list, it never hurts to send me a quick email. Unless otherwise stated, the majority of prices on this page are estimated and are intended to give possible customers an ballpark idea of cost.
Internet orders are pre-paid. Payments may be made by personal check, money order or PayPal.
Pumpkins
Sorry. I typically don't do custom pumpkins. Additionally, I tend to postpone taking on new projects during the month of October. I have had the opportunity to perform live pumpkin carving for events. Due to the brief season and other considerations, this only works out in rare instances.
Caricature Sketches
This refers to the caricature portraits that I create on-site at fairs, festivals, and events. I'm afraid I no longer take orders for these outside of my concession booth. Check my main page for a listing of scheduled events. If your city or organization has an event with vendor spaces that you think I would be interested in, fee free to send me the information. It is also possible to hire me to draw sketches at your event (see below).
Deluxe Digital Caricatures
These portraits are more comparable in complexity and time-involved to serious portraiture than to the caricatures listed above. Click here for examples. Customer may request props, scenery, activities, etc. Photos are required for specific props. These are created digitally so there is no original hard copy. The artwork may be emailed, printed out, or delivered on disc to the customer. Size is infinitely adjustable. There is an extra charge for extra prints or XL prints. Pricing is estimated as certain requests may increase complexity.
Pricing Estimate:
- Single person in the scene - $150
- Add $50 for each additional person
- Prints up to 11x17
Gift Caricatures
These caricatures are hand drawn but digitally manipulated so there is no hard copy. They mail be delivered by email, print or CDrom disc. They generally have very limited color. Customer may specify where they would prefer color be added. For example, titles, lettering, or certain props in the scene. These are typically full body caricatures and include a scene similar in complexity to the example seen here. These make great gifts, greeting cards, keepsakes, etc... Photos may be submitted as usual and are returned.
Price: (may include a single print - 8x10)
- Typical scene, one face - $50
- Each additional face - $20
Live Caricatures
I often set-up a caricature booth at fairs and festivals that are within a reasonable driving distance. I require at least a 10x10' booth space. With my retail booth, my success depends greatly on how many caricatures I have time to complete. For this reason I only consider shows at least six or seven hours long. Shorter shows are rarely worth it for me. If you'd like to send me information about a fair or festival that you are involved with, email me or send vendor information to: Scott Cummins -- 1001 Key Drive -- Perryton TX 79070.
Another possiblity is the option to hire me to do caricatures at you party or special event at no cost to your guests. I am only available on the weekends during the school year and those tend to get booked quickly. I charge $125 per hour drawing time and require minimum of two hours. For travel expenses, I get $25 per hour of driving time. I work in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas primarily.
Information
- Party caricatures are black and white only.
- The quick-sketch type of portrait are best for serving more guests.
- I can do approximately 12 faces per hour.
- I bring all required materials and equipment.
- Events can include parties, proms, trade shows, arts and crafts shows, mall events, openings, indoor and outdoor festivals, etc...
Murals
My murals are custom designed and painted directly onto the wall on-site. This limits the amount of time I am able to spend on mural painting during the year. Particularly in cases where much travel is involved.
Go to this page to see some mural examples.
Murals may be painted indoors or out. I use only quality latex and acrylic paint. There is typically no reason why a mural should not last for many years. Particularly in the case of indoor murals.
Many factors affect the pricing of mural art. How much color is involved? How complex is the design to paint? What condition is the surface of the wall? What overall size is the mural? Will special equipment such as scaffolds need to be rented? Are travel expenses involved? The following pricing will give a "ballpark" estimate including typical materials and labor. This pricing does not include special equipment or travel expense. The estimate also refers to fairly realistic representation and full use of color in the design. A mural can be painted in a wide range of styles. A full color realistic approach is the most complex and and takes more time to complete.
Mural Pricing
- $25 per square foot will give an idea of the cost.
- Consider fuel and lodging for travel.
- A smooth, primed surface is ideal.
- Outdoor murals are typically more complicated, require special materials, and may be more expensive.
- Only very large work usually requires special equipment.
Watercolor Portraits
My watercolor portraits are rendered from photographs that you supply. The better the photo, the better the final artwork. Pricing varies. A portrait similar to this one would be $350 with the head and shoulders. More detail and scenery like this one or this one would be $450-500. Sizes are generally in the 16x20" range. Larger size are extra but smaller sizes do not affect the pricing. Pet portraits are also possible at identical pricing.
Things to consider...
- Pricing starts at $250.
- People or items from numerous photos can be combined.
- Typically, add $125 for each additional face.
- Painting is completed on heavy watercolor paper.
- Photos are returned
- Props and scenery are an extra cost, though often less than additional faces.
Pastel Portraits
Pastel portraits are rendered in chalk pastel on toned paper. Here is an example. Once again, I work from photos. Digital or prints work fine. Pricing and size is comparable to the watercolor portraits above.
There is also a limited color option like this one. This would be on toned paper in shades of sepia or grey. Pet portraits are also possible at identical pricing.
Prices:
- Full color - single - $200
- Full Color - couple - $275
- Limited Color - single - $100
- Limited Color - couple - $175
- $75 per each additional face.
Graphic Design
Prices for digital graphic work vary. There are factors to be considered such as complexity, reproduction rights, and extent of use. Graphic Design can include logos, letterheads, flyers, brochures, t-shirts designs, business cards, web graphics, etc. Digital graphics are generally delivered on CD or by way of online download.
Some general things to know:

Book Illustration
